    If you are from the black and minority ethnic community in Wakefield then I am here to help.

    My name is Arshad Mahmood.  I am the Black and Minority Ethnic Development Worker for learning disabilities.  My job is to work with black and minority ethnic communities in Wakefield to make sure services for people with learning disabilities and family carers are appropriate and that they are receiving the support they need.

    BME Carers Group 

    There is a BME carers group that meets on a regular basis for carers of people with learning disabilities from black and minority ethnic communities.  The group invites speakers to find out more about services for people with learning disabilities and they get involved in shaping new services.  To find out more about our meetings please contact me.

     

    Polish Forum

    The Polish Forum meets on a monthly basis for those people from the Polish community who want to see things improve in their community.  To find out more about our meetings please contact me.

     

    Neighbourhood Management

    There are 3 Neighbourhood Management areas across the district where residents, the Council, Police, Wakefield and District Housing, Primary Care Trust, Fire and Rescue and many other partner agencies work together to try and improve the quality of life for people in the area.

    Wakefield District Community Online (WDCO)

    The aim of WDCO is to empower community groups across the Wakefield District, alongside the residents of Wakefield, by providing an online platform for community information.  To find out more and what is happening near you go to www.wdco.org.

     

    Jaan

    Jaan is the main website which services Wakefield's Asian community, providing news and information.  www.jaan.org.uk.

     

    Masjid Zakariya Mosque

    Masjid Zakariya is a newly constructed mosque, service the needs of the Muslim community in Adbrigg and Wakefield.  The mosque features 2 main prayer halls for males and females, and accommodates 200+ worshippers every Friday for the Jummah congregational prayers.  For more information for to masjidzakariya.co.uk.
