Hemsworth day opportunities

 No description

What we do

Wakefield Council provides day opportunities for adults with a learning disability who live in the south east area of the district.

The service is run from several small bases in the south east.  We offer a variety of activities including education, cookery, sport, art, pottery, sewing and other crafts, woodwork and gardening, both at the centres and in the community.

We are also looking at developing 2 social enterprises, one making greeting cards and wedding favours and the other gardening for the elderly.

We have recently modernised the service so it is delivered in line with 'Valuing People'.  The new service helps people to become more involved in their community, offers more choice and is more flexible to meet individuals' needs.

How to access the service

To access the service you will need to have a Community Care Assessment, which is undertaken by a social worker or social care manager.  You will also have a financial assessment and we will tell you how much you will have to pay towards the costs.

How you can contact us

You can contact us through Social Care Direct on 0845 8 503 503 or email social_care_direct@wakefield.gov.uk.
