    KeyRing Scheme

     No description

This scheme is close to Wakefield City Centre and members have been selected to form a community living in ordinary houses or flats in the area.  The members live in properties which are all within 10-15 minutes walk from each other, which enables members to offer mutual support while living in the community.  The scheme provides opportunities for 9 network members.

The properties are using Wakefield District Housing who is the largest registered social landlord in Wakefield.

A community living volunteer is also part of the network, and they provide advice and support to members as and when they need it.  KeyRing aims to provide support by drawing on the skills and experiences of all the network members as well as that of the volunteer.  KeyRing is also keen to promote community connections to provide additional opportunities and support for members.

The Wakefield scheme is managed by Karen Campbell who provides support to the community living volunteer and network members.

The Wakefield scheme has enabled people to move from residential based services, to move away from situations where they have faced harassment or isolation or even to gain independence away from their parents' home.

The mutual support between members has reduced their isolation and dependence on provider services and has helped to develop individual members' confidence and self-reliance.

Who can be a KeyRing member?

    • Applicants have a learning disability

    • Applicants have a need for independent housing with appropriate support

    • Applicants must have an understanding of fire risks

    • Applicants must have basic skills; looking after money, shopping, cleaning and must not need help with personal care

    • Applicants must be without behavioural difficulties or mental health difficulties which would require a high lever of support and monitoring than is available within the network

If KeyRing members require more support to develop and gain independence the Care Managers could commission a separate provider to be included in the member's overall support package to complement the KeyRing scheme.
