What we do

Stars in the Sky Yorkshire is a ground breaking friendship and dating agency for people with learning disabilities in the North of England.

It is the first agency of its kind outside London which aims to extend social networks and support people with learning disabilities to widen their circle of friends and develop and sustain relationships through involvement in an assortment of social events and one to one meetings.

The initiative was launched by HFT and Dimensions UK, in September 2007 and currently has over 65 members, many of whom use "People and Places", a social networking website accessed through Stars in the Sky which enables members to chat to each other, share music, photographs, videos, send messages, organise their diaries and plan activities.  This is a secure site which has been funded for 2 years by the Wakefield Learning Disability Partnership Board, and 4 other partners within Wakefield District are also using the system.

We have also recently received funding from Wakefield Metropolitan District Council to develop Stars in the Sky to become a community interest company managed and run by adults with learning disabilities, and we are developing a consultancy service.
